Mr. Kevin Brophy is a Founder and Managing Principal of Meidlinger Partners, LLC. He has a wide range of experience in the water industry, ranging from utility operations and public utility rate design to mergers, acquisitions and strategic planning. Mr. Brophy is the chief executive officer and chief financial officer for Meidlinger Partners. In this role, he will manage investor relations, oversee the firm's daily operations, and manage financial planning for Portfolio Companies. Mr. Brophy will also play an integral role in strategic planning for Portfolio Companies.
Prior to co-founding Meidlinger Partners, Mr. Brophy worked for 13 years at Aqua America, Inc. (Aqua) (NYSE: WTR), one of the nation's largest publicly traded water utility companies serving approximately three million people in 13 states. At Aqua America, Mr. Brophy held roles in operations as well as several director positions (investor relations, corporate development). The latter half of Mr. Brophy's career with Aqua consisted of executive roles in mergers, acquisitions, business development, investor relations and strategic planning. He participated in special projects such as public utility rate case filings and follow-on equity offerings and occasionally managed aspects of Aqua's securities portfolio, including equities and derivatives.
From 2004 through 2007, Mr. Brophy held full responsibility for Aqua's 'growth through acquisition’ program throughout the State of Texas. Residing in Austin, Mr. Brophy directed the acquisition of five companies for Aqua Texas which significantly increased Aqua Texas’ customer base. In addition, he executed 12 water provision/wastewater deals for new, large ‘greenfield’ real estate development projects in Texas. For several of these deals, Mr. Brophy was in charge of orchestrating the creation of new treatment facilities for newly built communities. When the real estate developers complete these real estate projects, Aqua Texas is expected to increase its water customer base by more than 15,000 connections.
Based on his work in Texas, the CEO of Aqua selected Mr. Brophy to come to Aqua America headquarters and lead investor relations and strategic planning. In this role, he worked closely with the CEO of Aqua America to assess strategic priorities in the company and help convey Aqua’s growth story to the institutional investment community. He also worked closely with senior management on Aqua America’s merger and acquisition strategy.
The skills and experiences Mr. Brophy gained at Aqua, such as strategic planning, capital budgeting, business development, operations management and technology integration, should provide him with a strong foundation from which to launch and lead Meidlinger Partners and the Fund.
